Our History
Akanya Development Solutions opened its doors in 2001 with founders, William Bila and Johan Olivier, bringing with them 40 years of combined expertise in Town and Regional Planning and its related disciplines. Our team has since grown to include specialists in the fields of environmental management and business management. Today, our project scope ranges from local-level development plans to assisting national and provincial departments to implement and assess policy and priority programmes.
Our mission
Akanya’s core mission is to bring customised, integrated, and sustainable local solutions to the development and urban management dilemmas facing South Africa today. We work alongside our clients, network partners and the community to harness an innovative development model, which is not only based on spatial planning principles, but which also makes use of financial and economic management tools.
Key to the way in which we operate is our beliefs that:
- The ability to see the ‘bigger picture’ is not a nice-to-have, it is essential to the feasibility of any future-focused plan.
- The only sustainable solutions are community-driven solutions.
- Our planning should be both visionary and practical.
- Relationship is everything – from our clients and joint venture partners, to the communities where we work.
